As a translator with a background in IT and marketing, it was easy to specialize in these fields when starting out. During my 10 years as a freelance translator, my experience has expanded to providing patient information and other non-specialized medical translation, where I have been trained and guided by more experienced medical translators. Now it looks like another specialization is making its way into my repertoire, or perhaps it is just a development of my specialization in marketing and business communication. So what is this new specialization?

I am translating more and more material for NGO’s and organizations trying to further environmental sustainability, human rights and economic development. I have been one of the primary Swedish translators for Lions International for about 4 years now, and I previously translated for Rotary International. Other very fascinating translation projects I have performed have been for the Clinton Foundation, focusing on climate change and economic development, and research documentation and funding application for women’s rights in Africa.

All these projects have been immensely interesting and I enjoy translating and researching how these organizations help people in need, and further the development of more sustainable resources. In short, I feel a new specialization brewing.

Swedish Translation Services is a company owned by Tess Whitty, a freelance translator (English-Swedish), proofreader, editor, copy writer, localizer and entrepreneur.
